Design and manufacturing of a 2-DOF force sensing needle for retinal surgery
Among the global researchers, the Mechanical Engineering group at University of Leuven, in concert with the University Hospital Leuven, are on a deliberate mission to explore an in-vivo 2-DOF smart sensing technique associated with robotic-assisted ophthalmic surgical procedures. The success of this technique comes as a result of the development of a DTG®-based sensing modality that boosts the performance of the delicate surgical tools utilized in recanalization of retinal vein occlusion (RVO) affecting over 16 Million people worldwide.
