Unity between high spatial precision and long-distance fiber sensing
The FBGS InfinityScan® enables long-distance monitoring by measuring a dense network of FBG sensors. This allows a dramatic increase in the number of sensors that can be read out.
The FBGS InfinityScan® is the new interrogation unit for FBG fiber sensing. Engineered for the industry, dynamic and precise, it measures up to 2000 sensing points per engine to cover long distances (over 1 km). Moreover, the system supports the “ILLumiSense” software offering visualization features as well as processing and converting FBG wavelengths into engineered data.
The interrogation unit suits temperature, strain and pressure sensing in the following environments:
. large production installations
. monitoring of long-distance civil and energy infrastructures
To meet these industry needs, the optical engine is available as Embedded Processing (EP) platform housed in an industry-standard 19” chassis.
What is “Code Division Multiplexing”?
The device is based on our patented technology “Code Division Multiplexing” (CDM). The sensing network is composed of multiple sections repeating the same WDM-array that are measured simultaneously. This is made possible by a digital code that modulates the outgoing and incoming light as a function of time. Fibers are measured sequentially, and it is possible to lock a chosen WDM-section.
Overlapping or repeating wavelengths are not an issue anymore.
Customer benefits
Nothing more stands in the way of monitoring long distances. One device can now monitor over 1 km and 2 000 sensors onwards.
∙ Precise long-distance monitoring (over 1 km)
∙ Agile & cost-efficient solution (one fiber and one device reducing the costs per sensing point)
∙ Increased awareness of structure’s health enabling predictive maintenance and early failure detection leading to reduced downtime
∙ Higher spatial precision
∙ No limitation in number of sensing points
∙ No data combination needed: one read-out for all sensing points
∙ Possible interrogation of fiber sections
∙ Possible interrogation of single sensing points
