In general, exposing optical fibers to water-based (fluids) or oils can result in a permanent damage in the glass material, which eventually leads to induced fiber breakage.  Therefore, the right selection of the fiber coating and having an additional protection layer is crucial in increasing the damage threshold.  For additional protection of DTG^® fibers, FBGS offers additional protective layers made of GFRP (with +HDPE) and thermoplastics, such as Hytrel^®, or Peek material.
