In a recent publication from the National University of Singapore (NUS), test results of a newly-designed and fabricated soft wearable robotic glove with integrated DTG® sensors were presented. The glove, which was part of hand rehabilitation and task-specific training was constructed to be compatible with functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) system. The time-triggered assistive control strategy, combined with the guidance video, allows the subject to practice active repetitive movement by reconnecting intention to action.
The MR-glove was configured to have the DTG® arrays positioned over the fingers joints to enable tracking of hand kinematics. The sensors were coupled to the FBG-scan 804D WDM-based 4-channel interrogator at 1kHz and 80nm bandwidth. Fiber optics sensing with DTG®s enables vast new measurement capabilities for further improvements of the soft wearable robotic gloves due to their sensitivity, size, immunity to EM radiation, and MRI compatibility.
