Interrogator FBG-Scan 915-EP

FBG-Scan 915-EP: no compromise between number of channels
and measuring performance

FBG-Scan 915-EP is FBGS’ flagship platform for spectrometer-based FBG interrogation technology, combining 15 channels and the top performance of the FBG-Scan 90X product line.
Specially developed for industrial environments, it delivers the unmatched precision of 0.3 pm @ full measurement speed with a maximum number of sensing points.

The FBG-Scan 915-EP is the high-end interrogation unit for FBG fiber sensing. Engineered for the industry, dynamic and precise, it measures up to 50 sensing points per fiber and 15 channels per engine. In short: One single device monitors up to 750 sensing points with high accuracy. Moreover, the system supports the “ILLumiSense” software offering visualization features as well as processing and converting FBG wavelengths into engineered data. The interrogation unit suits temperature, strain and pressure sensing in the following environments:
– large production installations, processes or facilities
– monitoring of civil and energy infrastructures
To meet these industry needs, the optical engine is available as Embedded Processing (EP) platform housed in an industry-standard 19” chassis.

Customer benefits
∙ Monitor a whole process or multiple production processes with one single device
∙ Same high precision & performance, regardless of the number of measurement points and measuring speed
∙ Cost-efficient solution to scale up production monitoring leading to improved product quality and repeatability / efficiency of production
. Increased process awareness enabling predictive maintenance and early failure detection leading to reduced downtime

Features
∙ Linearity: 3 pm
∙ High wavelength stability of 0,3pm @ full sampling rate
∙ Internal wavelength reference for high absolute wavelength accuracy
∙ No need for time-of-flight corrections to maintain wavelength accuracy
∙ Depolarized light source to reduce birefringence induced noise effects
∙ High dynamic range ≥ 30dB
∙ Remote access through API and TCP/IP streaming
∙ Handle onboard processing as well as data streaming to local or cloud infrastructure

Fields of application
FBG-Scan 915-EP is perfectly suited for applications in industrial environments where long or complicated production processes have to be monitored.  Moreover, the multiplexing possibilities enable simultaneous monitoring of multiple processes with a single measurement engine minimizing the cost per measurement point.

Typical fields of application include:

Process industry
∙ Steel casting
∙ Chemical processing

Civil monitoring
∙ Road & dam monitoring
∙ Mines

Energy installation monitoring
∙ Pipelines
∙ Undersea cables
∙ Risers
∙ Monopiles

FBG-Scan 915-EP | FAQ

What are the differences between 915 and other interrogation devices of 90X family?
The FBG-Scan 915 is an upgrade of the 90X family and is for now only available as EP (Embedded Processing) version. The device features 15 channels instead of 4 or 8 and guarantees the same high performance and an equal number of sensing points in one channel / fiber as the 8 channels model.
What is EP? What does it mean?
EP means Embedded Processing. It is the industrial version of the 90X product line featuring a special housing designed to answer the special needs of these applications: a 19” chassis mountable using brackets.
Compatibility with FBGS’ ILLumiSense software?
Good news: the optical engine is compatible with the in-house developed “ILLumiSense” software. At least with the latest version, which has been given a proper upgrade to convert the data from the 15 channels. But you do not have to worry about the compatibility: the interrogation device automatically comes along with the right version of the software!
