A poster and a well-attended talk titled “Lab in a Needle for Epidural Space Identification”, which were presented by the research teams from University of Sannio and Sapienza University in Italy won “The Best Poster Award”, of the Poster Session II at the 6th European Workshop Optical Fibre (EWOFS) in Limerick, Ireland on May 31 – June 3, 2016.
The presentation describes a sensorized epidural needle, which judiciously integrates an FBGS’s DTG®-based fiber optic strain sensor that provides a continuous and real-time measurement of the applied pressure experienced during the advancement of the needle tip into a phantom representing the epidural space.
